Stranger Thoughts :The Upside-Down World of Suicide-The Wizard of IZ (ZOOM)

Stranger Thoughts: The Upside-Down World of Suicide-The Wizard of IZ
A Virtual, Youth-Friendly Interactive Presentation
Parents and guardians are invited and strongly encouraged to attend.

Imagine a sister city to Oz called IZ—a place where people may find themselves when emotional pain, fear, isolation, and hopelessness become overwhelming. The Wizard of IZ is a poignant yet hopeful theatrical presentation that explores the experiences of a young woman impacted by childhood bullying and the emotional struggles that follow. As she journeys through the Land of IZ, she encounters her feelings in unexpected ways, hears what they have to say, and begins to understand that even our most difficult emotions can provide important information about what we need.

Through storytelling, performance, reflection, and conversation, the presentation creates an opportunity to explore bullying, emotional wellness, suicidal thoughts, help-seeking, resilience, and the importance of connection and support. At its heart, The Wizard of IZ reminds young people and the adults who care for them that feelings can change, circumstances can change, that support is available, and there are always opportunities to make new choices. The ultimate message is one of hope, possibility, and appreciating the moment we have right now—WHAT IZ!

Recommended for youth, parents, guardians, educators, and other caring adults. Participants will also receive 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline information and MHANJ resources.
